I had another great day of running today at they gym, I was able to run another 5K! I am not concerned about how fast I run just the fact that I can make it without walking. I glance every once and a while at the treadmills around me to see what speed they run at, most of them are considerably faster than I am but they always start walking before I am anywhere near done. It is a good feeling to be finishing up and have outlasted multiple waves of people on the treadmills next to me.

I have figured out a workout schedule that will hopefully work for me. Every day I am going in with a different plan so that I can improve. All the running materials I have read say to train for length, speed and endurance all on separate days.
*
Day 1: Easy 5K at 3.5 mph then lift one heavy upper body circuit
Day 2: 5K at 4 mph as much as possible to improve speed then lift one heavy lower body on circuit machines
Day 3: Trail run, I haven't done it yet but I plan on running a 5k then then turning around and walking or running as much more as I can. This will be my long day (6 miles total) and most likely my hardest. It is a lot easier to run on a treadmill that forces you to run at a set pace than to run a trail all by yourself. I wouldn't probably add this except I am signing up for a race that is in a few weeks and I really need to work on this. I think signing up for and paying for a race will be my strongest temporary motivation yet.
Day 4: Rest day (maybe pool!)
Then I am going to start all over again. I have already filled this out on a calender on my fridge and put the schedule into my phone to remind me to keep on track.

Best part?
I burned just shy of 800 calories today!

  1. That is so awesome! :) I just started running and have made it to 2 miles straight... (and if you knew what I ran a few months ago this would seem like the biggest accomplishment of my life. haha) I signed up for a half marathon for September...(which I plan on doing a walk/run) but it has definitely been the motivation I need to get running. ;)

  3. That's a great plan!! I always ran for distance not time!! The fasted I ever ran my 3.2 on the treadmill was 31 minutes I think! I would love to shave it to under 30 but I am just glad I was able to run it at all :)

Gah-Hearing all about running makes me want to RUN now!

  4. I love your blog - i found it through a friend of a friend. I just started my WW blog to motivate me and keep me on track. I was on WW roughly 2 years ago then i found out i was expecting so I stopped. But I'm back and just started walking on the treadmill to start up the momentum. Any suggestions will be taken!
