Yesterday I started my walking/running routine!
I had a great walk even though I was pretty sore before I started. I was able to get in 4 miles though in about 70 minutes. I am hoping to get faster by the end of the summer but today was just day one! I am glad I went today though since Denver is suppose to get a ton of snow tonight and for the next few days. It will give me a good break before I start again when the weather should be nice again on Saturday. Don't underestimate recovery time and how important it is to your body.

Carolina Girl sent me a great article about running vs walking and the calories burned. It makes total sense but is a little confusing. Check it out if you have questions.
I do know that if I tried to run 4 miles straight even at a slow pace I would never make it. I still burned 700 calories today by the time my heart rate returned to normal. I was thinking back to the summer I lost 17 lbs and if I do the math that is over a pound a week. If I continue walking this summer I hopefully will loose a pound a week again and be at goal by the end of the summer.

I really don't have a definitive goal yet. I am making small goals and when I get to where I feel great I will start maintaining. I know most people have an ideal weight where they felt their absolute best but I really don't have one. I use to never worry about weight until woke up one day and was unhappy. I know that I can look at bmi but really it is such a huge range it doesn't help me. According to it I could loose 25 more pounds and be healthy. I am guessing that would be way too many but I would say it will be at least ten more pounds.
Yay, for your walk! I just ran 2.5 miles and am so excited. I have not ran that much since freshman year of college. Which is well over 4 years ago. I love to walk to but running lets me get rid of my stress in a different way. I am rooting for you so keep it up!
ReplyDelete4 miles!!! Good for you! I am more of a walker...I get too tired if I try to run. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is an awesome walk! I really agree that walking is the best way to start out! But I prefer running because it is such a great stress reliever and I think it really helps with my lung and overall health. Running is definitely something to build up to though and it can take a while to get there! My favorite way to get there is to do intervals - run hard for a minute then walk briskly to recover. Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeletegood for you! sounds like you got great workout in. I feel you on the goal weight thing. The charts and confusing and i often feel like what they think is normal, is not even maintainable for me.
ReplyDeleteSo--go with your gut and keep working!
Bravo!! Can't wait to hear more about the run/walk developments. :)
ReplyDeleteYay for you!!
ReplyDeleteI like the small goals idea too. That way it's not so overwhelming. For me I'd like to lose about 40 lbs. (EEK) but if I think about that it gets scary. So just focusing on my next 5 pounds for now. Baby steps! :) Good for you on the walking/running progress!!
